The official Youtube page of Europe’s oldest established classic jazz band, the Dutch Swing College Band.
More than 79 years ago when the Nazis imprisoned people caught listening to jazz music, some enthusiastic youngsters avoided the firing squad by practising secretly in the cellars of The Hague. They were dedicated to forming a school for jazz music after WW2, thus the Dutch Swing College was formed.
Its members gave lectures, organised meetings and taught jazz music, leading to the professional launch of the Dutch Swing College Band in 1960. Since then it’s won a host of international prizes, recorded over 500 albums and remains the longest established performing classic jazz band in the world.
The band continues to thrill capacity audiences wherever it performs, and their worldwide concert tours show that the Dutch Swing College Band is still one of Holland’s greatest exports and is a leader in European Jazz History.
Today the Dutch Swing College Band is alive and kickin’.
