In my 37 years of studying Bible prophecy, I've learned that understanding the book of Revelation requires a high level of proficiency with the rest of the Bible. It's the only way, and there really are no short cuts. Even so, over the years many have taken short cuts which is the reason why we now have so many different opinions and interpretations on eschatology. As a result, many Christians today are reluctant to delve into this area of the Bible not sure what to believe or who to listen to. Others just go with what their Church or Pastor teaches, or fall for the sensationalism doled out by popular prophecy teachers. So, my advice to anyone wanting to pursue understanding in this area is to be a sponge absorbing as much knowledge of the entire Bible as possible. Also, learn the inner workings of all the mainline eschatological views well. Most of all, don't become a lover of a view. It's a trap. Instead, be a seeker and lover of truth.
