Gateway Pet Guardians is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to ending homelessness for animals in the East St. Louis, IL metropolitan area.
In 2004, we officially began our work feeding the overwhelming number of stray dogs and cats on the city's streets. East St. Louis is a community located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri. With over 45% of the community living below the poverty line and no pet resources (no veterinarian, no pet supply store and limited options for quality groceries), the area is a pet resource desert.
In 2012, we began working hand in hand with the community to solve this problem. Since this time, spay/neuter services, vaccination clinics, resource delivery and emergency crisis funding have made huge impacts keeping pets healthy and safe with the families that love them.
