The Abbey of the Transfiguration was originally founded in April 1982 and formally inaugurated on August 6, 1983, Feast of the Transfiguration. It was elevated to the official status of an Abbey on February 2, 2017 with the Rt. Reverend Abbot Eduardo Ma. Africa, OSB as its first Abbot.
Noteworthy is the date of the first survey visit to the site (August 6, 1981) headed by Fr. Ed Africa, OSB together with the Most Rev. Francisco Claver, SJ, then the Bishop of Malaybalay (who was the one who offered the land), fell on the very Feast of the Transfiguration. That was when it was unanimously decided that it would be the most suitable place for their planned monastic foundation---a decision that was unmistakably God-led.
