The Greek Presidential Guard, known as the Evzones, has a history rooted in both military ser-vice and ceremonial duties, symbolizing Greek bravery and national pride. Originally established in 1868 as an elite unit of the Hellenic Army, their roles have evolved from border guards to guardians of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Presidential Palace. They are also responsible for raising and lower-ing the Greek flag on the Acropolis and providing honor guards for dignitaries.
The foustanella has 400 pleats to symbolize the years of Ottoman occupation. Every detail of the Evzone uniform carries history and pride.
