For Z, it’s always been about the music. “I’ve been a musician virtually my entire life,” he says. “I started playing piano at 5. I formed my first band and wrote my first original song at 10.”
An accomplished keyboardist, Z was born and raised near Philadelphia, where he currently resides. A lifelong nickname became a convenient way to allay concerns about being too theatrical on stage. “I could more easily pour myself into my performances”.

Meanwhile, Z’s alter ego, Zeek Mitchell, finds this multifaceted artist shifting effortlessly to the sort of memorable melodies, layered harmonies and studio craftsmanship that recalls ’70s greats 10CC, Big Star and fellow Philly artist Todd Rundgren. Z can also be found performing with haZy cosmic jive, a Bowie tribute band with a twist.
