For some, Rukus first appeared on their screens with the 2021 viral video of his wedding reception where he and his wife freestyled to DJ Screw's “June 27th”. But for others, Rukus has been a mainstay in hiphop and afrobeats with songs featured on hit shows like Starz’s “Power” and Showtime’s “The Chi”.
Rukus has always used hiphop as a tool to create change. Oakland radio picked up Rukus’ touching tribute on police brutality entitled “Dear Tatiana” and the song served as a rallying cry for Oakland residents outraged by the murder of Oscar Grant. Award winning actress, Zendaya, hailed the song as Rukus creatively touched on the effects of brutality while honoring the legacy of Grant; the song would go on to be offered placement in the movie Fruitvale Station.
His latest project, EVERYTHING I NEEDED, includes the smash-hit “Summertime” and reminds us of the emotions of life and love, the relationships we have with others, and our relationship with ourselves.
