I'm the author of the book "Pure Invention: How Japan Made the Modern World," and the co-author of "Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide" and its sequels "Ninja Attack!" and "Yurei Attack!" You might also know me from TV, as a co-host of the NHK World series "Japanology Plus."

I've spent 20+ years in Tokyo, working alongside some of Japan's top talent localizing video games (Dragon Quest, Ninja Gaiden, Gundam, Nioh, etc.), manga (Dorohedoro, Doraemon, etc.), and more. I've traveled the nation for decades, hunting for cultural artifacts and interviewing their creators.
