It all started with a childhood dream that had been tucked away neatly in the back of my mind. When I was 10 years old my family took a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We went to Newfound Gap and hiked about a mile on the Appalachian Trail. Dad told me it went all the way to MaineI When we turned around to go back to the parking area I distinctly remember looking over my shoulder, wanting to keep going toward Maine.
Fast forward to present day and I thought it impractical to leave my career and set off on a trail for months. The thing about big dreams is they nag at you until you can’t be comfortable anymore. That’s when Jonathan, my husband (aka “Platinum) and I decided to go on our first backpacking trip in 2018-to section hike the Smokys on the Appalachian Trail. When we finished he said I want to hike the whole trail with you-let’s find a way to make it happen. So we did!
