Lavanya Raghuraman

Lavanya Raghuraman is a leading disciple of the preeminent dancing couple of India , the Dhananjayans. She also hails from the scholarly musical lineage of Dr S Ramanathan. A gifted individual with multi-faceted talents, she is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, Carnatic music vocalist and violinist rolled into one. She also holds an MMS degree from Duke University’s Business School and gave up a career in Strategy Consulting to pursue her passion for the arts full time . As a well-trained dancer of Bharatanatyam, a south Indian classical dance form which is a composite of movement and theater, Lavanya brings her skills as a practitioner of an age-old performance tradition. Her work has also been shaped by her life as a woman, an immigrant, an inhabitant of a diverse cultural space and conviction that art can help us transform the way we live.Lavanya is the Artistic Director of Alapana Arts (an offshoot of Alapana Arts Singapore) where she teaches Carnatic Music and Bharatanatyam.
