St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral began in 1887 as an eastern-rite Catholic community founded by Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants, most of whom came from the villages in eastern Slovakia (which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). The community was officially received into the Orthodox Church on the feast of the Annunciation in 1891.
We are a parish of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). Our church is a part of the Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest. We have a rich history and a dynamic present. We would like to share our church-life with you and hope that you will enjoy our content.
