This channel is focused on the astronomical basis of the Hindu calendar.
The Hindu calendar is widely used by over 1 Billion Indians for religious and cultural purposes. The dates of all Hindu festivals are fixed based on the Hindu calendar. So also the dates of many auspicious life events such as upanayanas and weddings. Yet most of us have very little understanding of the fundamentals of this calendar which are astronomical in nature.
The Hindu calendar has a sound basis in astronomy. Specifically, it is based on the (apparent) movement of the Sun and the Moon around the earth and is composed of many many calendric elements. This channel attempts to explain and illustrate these elements but using Stellarium animations / simulations. These animations help the viewer to visualize the movement of the Sun and Moon and thus help in understand the Hindu calendar.
