Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari is currently a Member of the National Assembly from Dera Ghazi Khan and serving as the Federal Minister of Energy (Power Division).

He has formerly served as Federal Minister for Information Technology from 2002-2007 whereby Pakistan saw phenomenal growth in the IT and Telecom sector due to a cellular policy that won the GSM award for “best telecom and IT policy,” in Barcelona in 2005.

Awais Leghari belongs to a prominent political family of Dera Ghazi Khan that has been in some form of political office since four generations before his father, Sardar Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari reached the culmination of his career by assuming the office of President of Pakistan in 1993. At this point in Awais Leghari’s life, he was studying at the University of Rochester in New York, USA, from where he graduated with honours in economics (game theory) and Political Science. His initial schooling was at Aitchison College, Lahore.
