Dying to Stay Here Channel Description Snapshot
Channel Description
This project addresses the challenges of those stuck in a structurally biased economic system and its cycles—trapped in generational poverty or grappling with newfound limitations after escaping it. Black people intimately understand these struggles, living them daily.
The data analyzed tells a story that had not yet been understood but has now become clear. There are forces buried within our systems that are beyond all of us. Structures that were born of the racism that was embedded in our culture and accepted as a norm. We have come to realize that structures are inherently evil and must be dismantled.
As you view this work, I want you to keep something in mind: while we are Dying to Stay Here, we are serving as canaries. Like the canaries of the coal mines, we are the most vulnerable; therefore, our passing will warn others of problems that will eventually take them, too.
