The Nav Station

Welcome to The Nav Station. I'll be teaching you Practical Celestial Navigation, helping you become a more self-sufficient sailor and navigator. I learned navigation in the US Coast Guard, have 30,000 ocean sailing miles in my logbook, have raced in a dozen Bermuda Races, and taught navigation ashore and at sea for many years.

You don't need to be a whiz at spherical trigonometry to learn Celestial Navigation, but it helps to be organized and have a basic understanding of navigation. In this course we'll focus on what you need to know to become a competent celestial navigator today. Once you get comfortable with what we cover in this course, there is a lot of detailed celestial theory and methodology to explore later. This series contains several sequential videos, many with practice problems to do on your own. To fully participate you should have some tables and materials, described in the first video.
