Welcome to Arid Forge Station [formerly Simple Earth].
I am Marlon, a former software engineer. Together with my XO, Alexia, I operate this 'station', our farm in the Klein Karoo.
The Mission: The Karoo is a hostile planet. We face a 500mm rainfall deficit, extreme heat, and degrading infrastructure needing maintainance all the time.
Traditional farming relies on hope; at Arid Forge, we rely on Systems Architecture.
I treat this land like a mudball codebase with bugs, quirks and great features alike. My job is to refactor the soil biology, patch the hydraulic leaks, and write the automation code that keeps the life-support systems running for us, and our ecosystem.
Outside on 'The Surface' we do field repairs, water systems, off-grid power, animal work and infrastructure battles.
In 'The Terminal, it's all about data & drawings, contemplation, schematics, and breakdowns.
No Drama: It is what it is. Solution, try, fail, and reset.
