Deep diving into the whys and hows of coaching badminton. In order to master a skill, you must be able to teach it.
My name is Derrick Ng, and I am the Head Coach and Coaching Director at Bellevue Badminton Club in Seattle, USA. I started coaching to give back when I was 14 years old. Now, 22+ years later, I have gained a lot of experience trying, failing, and succeeding with many different coaching techniques. I’m still on the path of learning and I want to share all that I have learned with you.
I am also a former top 25 ranked player from Canada and still try to compete for fun. I recently placed 2nd in the 35+ Mixed Doubles and 3rd in the 35+ Men’s Singles at the 2023 BWF World Senior Championships. My body has gone through a lot of training and I still deal with injuries and setbacks. I definitely don’t feel young anymore but I will never choose to give up and I will always try to improve on my condition so I can continue playing the sport that I love so much.
