There is substantial and mounting evidence that acts amounting to genocide were committed against the Tigrayan population during the Tigray War in Ethiopia, which began in November 2020 and formally ended in November 2022. Multiple independent investigations, including a comprehensive June 2024 report by the US-based New Lines Institute, have concluded that Ethiopian government forces, in collaboration with the Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF) and Amhara Special Forces (ASF), carried out genocidal acts targeting Tigrayans as an ethnic group.
Genocidal Acts Identified: At least four acts constituting genocide were documented:
1.Systematic killing of Tigrayan civilians
2.Causing serious bodily or mental harm (including widespread torture and rape)
3.Deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group's destruction (notably through starvation tactics and blockade of aid)
4.Imposing measures intended to prevent births among Tigrayans
