Welcome! This channel holds the video intended to accompany Dr. Watkins' book, From the Inside Out: An In-Depth Resource for the Development of Saxophone Sound, available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other booksellers. It is the most extensive and thoroughly researched compilation on saxophone tone production ever produced. In future months, sections on his jazz saxophone quartet music and on improvisation will be added.

Dr. Watkins has been teaching for over 30 years and is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Brigham Young University–Idaho. He has performed in 20+ countries, released 9 albums, won a position in the US Army Field Band (but was unable to accept due to visual disability), and is a member of the saxophone quartet FOUR. Praised by artists such as Ed Calle and Jeff Coffin, Watkins’ compositions are published by Walrus, Jazz Lines, FOURjazz, Dorn, and Northeastern. He has written for JAZZed and other journals, and written three books.
