Born in a musical family, Shusmita Anis, the niece and devoted disciple of the legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer Feroza Begum, was trained by her aunt from the age of five. She has specialized in Nazrul Sangeet and modern Bengali songs, especially those tuned by her uncle, the legendary music director of the Indian subcontinent, Kamal Das Gupta. Shusmita Anis was a child artist in Bangladesh Television (BTV) and won the first prize for Nazrul Sangeet in BTV’s annual national competition on performing arts ‘Notun Kuri’ in 1976. Her first solo album was released in 1998. She has six solo albums and a number of singles release to her credit. Shusmita Anis studied Graphic Design in the USA. On completion of her studies, Shusmita settled in America. In 2009, Shusmita Anis returned to Bangladesh to pursue her career in business management. However, she did not miss any opportunity to practice singing and has performed in many solo programs on stage, television, and radio.
