SHARA - New Georgian Ethno Folk Channel Description Snapshot
Channel Description
It started as a quartet named LAKADA when the founding members Giorgi Shanava, Giorgi Dzadzamia and the brothers Luka and Levan Mebonia still studied at a music school in Tbilisi soon developed in size and style. New members joined (Irakli Chargazia / vocals and Shalva Tsivilashvili / Garmoni), and they addressed the Georgian music producer Chabuki Amiranashvili who suggested to shape LAKADA into a new project. Dancers completed the band, a new programme was set up where Georgian polyphonic singing and traditional dance combine to an entertaining performance rooted in ethno-folk but spiced up with poppier melodies, and one of Amiranashvili's compositions gave the project a new name: SHARA, which means narrow road ... the road they had passed already, and the road that was still lying ahead of them.
